a. I learned that people can be very cruel and that it is important for them to be accepting and understanding. I say this because of the way people treat Gretchen. They do not understand what she has to go through, they do not understand how she lives her life and what happens in her life.
b. I rediscovered what it is like for people who do not quite fit in to be judged without reason. Once again, this relates to Gretchen and her life. People judge her even though they know nothing about her. Cal is becoming more understanding because he is learning more about her and is understanding that there is no reason to judge her.
c. I was surprised when Cal fumbled the football. This does not relate to the first two parts but it could be considered a metaphor to his life. He gets so close to doing something good, and accomplishing something, and then he just throws it away.
d. I'm beginning to wonder if Cal and Gretchen will become something more. Although I am not far into the book, the way they talk, and the way Cal understands what she is going through and the compassion he shows is revealing that they may be something more. Something more than two people who walk down the halls avoiding each other.
e. I was disturbed that Cal blamed Gretchen for him receiving 7th period. I think this is wrong because she did not ask him to talk to her. He just started talking to her when he did not have to, or nor did she probably want him to.
f. I was confused about why Cal is so set on Lara; he never talks to her, he never tries to talk to her, he never hangs out with her. He simply just does not try to do anything with or for Lara. It simply does not make sense.
g. I was interested on how they talked back in that time period. I noticed in "Catcher in the Rye" as well. One example of this is how they say "necking" when really they mean making out. I guess it probably is not that interesting to most people but I am always fascinated by the way people talk.
